Island Paradise (Part 1)

During March 18-27 I was able to travel to the exquisite island of Puerto Rico with my class for a senior trip. Also known as the "Isla de Encanto", Puerto Rico was acquired by the U.S. from Spain as part of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 during the Spanish-American War. Now that you've had that fun little history lesson, here's some pictures documenting the first half of our trip.

Packed and ready to go!

My friend Victoria at the beautiful beach right next to our house.

This is a typical Puerto Rican dish called "mallorca." It's basically a ham and cheese sandwich made on sweet bread and covered with powdered sugar. It sounds kind of sketchy, but it was so delicious. We all tried it at several different places, but Cafeteria Mallorca in Old San Juan definitely had the best!

The colorful streets of the capitol city  - Old San Juan.

La Fortaleza a.k.a. The Governor's Palace.
